THE FAIRMONT PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION AT A SPECIAL MEETING TUESDAY APPROVED FORWARDING TO THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE SOUTHERN MINNESOTA MUNCIPAL POWER AGENCY TO PROCEED WITH THE SALE OF POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM REVENUE BONDS.

THE S M M PA BOARD WILL BE VOTING ON ISSUING POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM REVENUE BONDS TO FUND S M M PA'S PORTION OF THE CAPX POWER TRANSMISSION PROJECT FROM HAMPTON NEAR THE TWIN CITIES TO ROCHESTER TO LACROSSE WISC.. S M M P A IS PROPOSING TO FUND 13 PER CENT OF THE PROJECT WHICH WOULD BE ABOUT 62 MILLION DOLLARS. S M M P A WILL RECOVER THIS COST THROUGH AN ATTACHMENT TO THE MIDWEST INDEPENDENT SYSTEM OPERATIONS (M I S O) RATES. THIS PROJECT WILL HELPT TO INCREASE RELIABILITY OF THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND WILL CONNECT WITH ANOTHER CAPX PROJECT FROM BROOKINGS,S.D TO NEAR THE TWIN CITIES.

A POSITIVE RESOLUTION FROM THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL AT THIS MONDAY'S MEETING WILL AUTHORIZE THE THE CITY'S REPRESENTATIVE AT THE S M M P A BOARD MEETING TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE ISSUANCE OF THE BONDS.
