THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL BOARD MADE IT OFFICIAL TUESDAY NIGHT. THEY APPROVED A LIST OF PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS NOT MANDATED BY THE STATE THAT WILL NOT BE FUNDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BEGINNING IN THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR. THEY INCLUDE ALL SPORTS AND OTHER CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS:

SPEECH,ROBOTICS,KNOWLEDGE BOWL,MATH LEAGUE,YEARBOOK,MIDWINTER PLAY,MUSICAL,STUDENT COUNCIL,BAND CONCERTS,CHOIR CONCERTS,ORCHESTRA CONCERTS,SCIENCE FAIR,ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR AND ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION POSITIONS. THE CUT LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE THE SOCCER AND HOCKEY PROGRAMS THAT ARE PRIVATELY FUNDED.

FUNDING WILL BE ELIMINATED FOR ELEMENTARY SPECIALS INCLUDING 1 ELEMENTARY ART TEACHER, 2 ELEMENTARY MUSIC TEACHERS, 2 ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, 1 5TH AND 6TH GRADE BAND TEACHER AND .5 THEACHER POSITION IN 5TH AND 6TH GRADE ORCHESTRA. HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING POSITIONS CUT WILL BE ONE IN VOCATIONAL ELECTIVES AND ONE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION ELECTIVES.

WITH THE REDUCTION N TEACHING STAFF THE SCHOOL DAY WILL BE SHORTENED FOR K-12 STUDENTS FROM 8 AM UNTIL 2:22 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

THE TOTAL LOSS OF EDUCATION OPPORTUNIIES IN THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL AMOUNT TO 754,000 DOLLARS. BOARD MEMBER DAN BROOKENS SAYS NOW IS THE TIME THAT BOARD NEEDS HELP FROM THE COMMUNITY.

DAN CONCLUDED BY SAYING HE DOES'T THINK THAT HELP WILL COME FROM ST.PAUL OR WASHINGTON,D.C.

THE LIST OF REDUCTIONS WILL BE REINSTATED FOR THE 2013-14 SCHOOL YEAR PENDING A SUCCESSFUL LEARNING LEVY PASSAGE IN THE NOVEMBER 6TH ELECTION. A POSITIVE YES VOTE IN THE ELECTION WILL MAINTAIN THE PRESENT ELECTIVES AND EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITES FOR 5 YEARS.

THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL BOARD HAS SET FOUR PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS ON THE REFERENDUM VOTE. THEY ARE THIS MONDAY OCTOBER 15 FROM 6-7 PM, SATURDAY OCTOBER 20TH FROM 9 AM - 10 AM AND MONDAY OCTOBER 22 FROM 10 - 11 AM. THOSE FAIRMONT MEETINGS WILL BE AT THE WILLIAM BUDD MEETING ROOM AT THE FAIRMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. A PUBLIC PRESENTATION IS SCHEDILED FOR THE CEYLON CITY HALL ON THURSDAY OCTOBER 25TH FROM 6 - 7 PM.

THE REFERENDUM ELECTION WILL BE PART OF THE GENERAL ELECTION BEING HELD ON THUESDAY NOVEMBER 6TH. THE BALLOT QUESTION WILL ASK IF SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTERS WANT TO RESCIND THE PRESENT 500 DOLLAR PER PUPIL UNIT OPERATING LEVY AND REPLACE IT WITH A 950 DOLLAR PER PUPIL OPERATING LEVY FOR THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT.
