Request for Public Input and Public Comment
It is the intent of the Fairmont Police Department to begin the process of implementing a Body
Worn Video Program in the City of Fairmont. Minnesota State Statute 626.8473 outlines the
process that we will follow for implementing the program in our community. Section 2 of this
statute requires the opportunity for public comment before it purchases or implements a Body
Camera Program. This includes our department accepting public comment via, mail, email,
telephone, and the opportunity for the public to provide public comment at a regularly
scheduled meeting. We would like to welcome members of our community to provide public
comment in any of the following methods:
1. Complete a short survey via a link on the Fairmont Police Website
www.fairmontpolice.org.
2. Mail, email, or call Chief Hunter directly at the Fairmont Police Department at 201 Lake
Avenue Suite 199, Fairmont, MN 56031. mhunter@fairmont.org. 507-238-4481.
3. Mail, email, or call any of your Fairmont City Council Members or Mayor Foster. Their
contact information can be found on the City of Fairmont website at
http://fairmont.orR/city-council/.
4. Appear in person to address the Fairmont City Council on Monday, October 9, 2017 at
1730 hours at the scheduled Fairmont City Council Meeting.
Results of the information gathered during the public input portion will be presented to the City
Council during the October 23, 2017 City Council Meeting along with a draft of the proposed
policy regarding the use of Body Cameras by the Fairmont Police Department. Please feel free
to contact Chief Hunter if you have any questions or concerns. We thank you in advance for
your opinions and input.
Respectfully,
Chief Michael Hunter V37
