THE FAIRMONT PARK BOARD TUESDAY HAD SOME DISCUSSION ABOUT THE EMERALD ASH BORER AND THE EFFECT IT COULD HAVE IN THE CITY. TROY NEMMERS, CITY ENGINEER AND PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, SAID THERE ARE PROBABLY MORE THAN 5,000 ASH TREES CITYWIDE. BOARD MEMBERS WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CITY ACCELERATING FUNDING AND THEIR TREE PLANTING SCHEDULE TO KEEP UP WITH THE NUMBER OF ASH TREES THAT WILL BE COMING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE PESKY BEETLES PRESENCE IN THE COUNTY.

NEMMERS MENTIONED THE PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE INFORMATIONAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT AT 5:30 PM AT THE MARTIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE COMMISSIONER'S MEETING ROOM-WHERE EXPERTS FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AND OTHERS ON THE STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS FOR THOSE INTERESTED.

THE BOARD ACTED POSITIVELY TOWARD A SUGGESTION THAT THE CITY SHOULD START NAMING THE BIKE AND WALKING TRAILS IN TOWN AFTER THE ONGOING ONLINE OPEN HOUSE FOR TRAIL SUGGESTIONS ON THE CITY'S WEBSITE, www.fairmont.org ENDS ON SEPT, 29TH.

BOARD MEMBER CRAIG NELSON SUGGESTED A PAVED PATH FROM THE PARKING LOT TO THE SYLVANIA PARK BANDSHELL BE CONSTRUCTED AND THE BANDSHELL ITSELF INSPECTED AND REPAIRED WHERE NEED BE.

THE PARK BOARD THANKED HANNAH BOTZET FOR HER GIRL SCOUT SILVER AWARD PROJECT OF INSTALLING FISH LINE RECYCLING CONTAINERS AT 15 MARTIN COUNTY LAKES INCLUDING FAIRMONT'S CHAIN AND SOMMER OUTDOORS LOCATION.
