THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS AT TUESDAY'S MARTIN COUNTY BOARD MEETING WAS APPROVAL OF A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR BEVCOMM AND ITS APPLICATION FOR A MN BORDER TO BORDER BROADBAND DEVELOPMENT GRANT APPLICATION. JIM BEATTY REPRESENTING BEVCOMM AND ITS WIRED INTERNET PLAN FOR PORTIONS OF RURAL GRANADA THAT WOULDADDRESS TEH LACK OF BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS AND CONNECTIVITY IN THE COUNTY. MR BEATTY THANKED THE BOARD AND COUNTY COORDINATOR SCOTT HIGGINS FOR SUPPORT LETTERS SENT TO THE OFFICE OF BROADBAND DEVELOPMENT.

MARTIN COUNTY HIGHWAY ENGINEER KEVIN PEYMAN UPDATED COMMISSIONERS ON A COURTHOUSE PARKINGLOT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. IT IS BEING PROPOSED TO IMPROVE THE LAKESIDE OF THE COURTHOUSE WHERE THE CABLE AND POST ARE IN POOR CONDITION AND THE NEED FOR A PARKING CURB ALONG THE LAKE BANK. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT SOME TREES HAVE DIED IN AN AREA WHERE SNOW WAS PILED OVER THE LAKE BANK. PEYMAN HAD CONCERSN ABOUT SNOW REMOVAL WITH THE NEW DESIGN BUT STATED IT WOULD HELP WITH LAKE BANK STABILIZATION. TEH COUNTY IS WORKIGN WITH SHORELAND REQUIRMENTS FOR DRAINAGE OF STORM WATER DOWN THE BANK. COMMISSIONERS APPROVED PROCEEDING WITH THE PLAN AND HAD SET ASIDE 20,000 DOLLARS FOR THE PROJECT IN THE BUDGET.

THE BOARD APPROVED A REQUEST BY COUNTY ZONING OFFICIAL PAM FLITTER TO PROCEED WITH HIRING A FULL TIME-40 HOUR POSITION TO AID WITH BUFFER ENFORCEMENT AND OTHER ZONING ENFORCEMENT DUTIES. THE COUNTY ACCEPTED AUTHORITY AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBLILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STATE BUFFER LAW. THE COUNTY HAS RECEIVED FUNDING FROM THE STATE TO ENFORCE BUFFER RULES GOOD FOR TWO YEARS AND THAT WILL HELP PAY FOR THE NEW POSITION.
