TRUMAN CITY CLERK MONTE ROHMAN HAS MADE IT KNOWN TO THE TRUMAN CITY COUNCIL THAT HE PLANS ON RETIRING FROM THAT POSITION - BUT NOT RIGHT NOW, AND NOT THIS YEAR. THE COUNCIL SET A WORK SESSION FOR AUG. 21 FOLLOWING THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING TO TALK ABOUT THE CITY CLERK POSITION HIRING PROCESS AND TRANSITION PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR. MONTE SAID THAT THE COUNCIL WILL DECIDE WHAT PATH TO TAKE - WHETHER TO STICK WITH THE PRESENT STATUS OF CITY CLERK, COMBINE A CLERK/TREASURER POSITION OR WITH A CITY ADMINISTRATOR.

ROHMAN SAYS HIS PLAN IS TO OFFICIALLY RETIRE AT THE END OF 2018. THE TRANSITION PLANNING WOULD TRY TO HIRE A REPLACEMENT BY JULY OF NEXT YEAR IN ORDER TO HAVE 6 MONTHS TO GET BROKEN IN ACCORDING TO MONTE, WHO HAS BEEN TRUMAN'S CITY CLERK SINCE 1981.

ROHMAN ALSO SAID THAT THE COUNCIL AT MONDAY NIGHT'S MEETING HEARD FROM PAT FLAHERTY OF HEARTLAND RURAL SERVICES, WHO WAS ASKED TO COME AND ADDRESS CONCERNS SOME COUNCIL MEMBERS HAD REGARDING THE SALE OF TRUMAN SENIOR LIVING'S FACILITY FROM PRIVATE OWNERS TO THE NON-PROFIT HEARTLAND. HEARTLAND WAS APPROVED FOR A LOAN FROM FEDERAL RURAL DEVELOPMENT TO PURCHASE AND RENOVATE THE FACILITY. RAFFERTY EXPECTS A CLOSING DATE IN 60-90 DAYS. HEARTLAND IS ALSO PURCHASING CARE FACILITIES IN WINNEBAGO AND WELLS IN FARIBAULT COUNTY.

THE COUNCIL APPROVED A REQUEST BY KINSHIP TO ALLOW MENTEES FREE ADMISSION TO THE TRUMAN SWIMMING POOL WITH PURCHASE OF A MENTOR ADMISSION, AND APPROVED A MOTION TO TO PURCHASE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT FOR GRAF PARK WITH THE 5,000 DOLLARS IN GRANT FUNDS TRUMAN RECEIVED FROM THE SCHMEECKLE FOUNDATION AND MARTIN COUNTY AREA FOUNDATION.
