THE MARTIN COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MET ON MONDAY. THE BOARD COULDN'T MUSTER A QUORUM HOWEVER TO OFFICIALLY APPROVE ANY BUSINESS AT THE MEETING-BUT DID HAVE DISCUSSION ON SOME TOPICS. THE AUTHORITY HEARD FROM BUSINESS FACILITATOR BRYAN STADING FROM THE RURAL CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL FACILITATION WHO TOLD THE BOARD THAT FUNDING FROM THE STATE LEGISLATURE IS ON HOLD SAYING THAT THE THE PAPER WORK HAD BEEN FILED BY JULY 1ST THIS YEAR BUT THAT" EVERYBODY IS ON VACATION" SO THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON THAT. THAT MONEY WILL BE DIRECT APPROPRIATION AS COMPARED TO THE REIMBURSEMENT METHOD THAT USED TO BE IN PLACE.

MEANWHILE THE E D A REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED THE PRELIMINARY 2018 BUDGET AMOUNT. THE AMOUNT OFFERED BY COUNTY COORDINATOR SCOTT HIGGINS WAS 72,650 DOLLARS IN EXPENDITURES AND REVENUES. AN INCREASE OF 4,486 DOLLARS FROM THIS YEAR'S BUDGET. UPON REVIEW THE AUTHORITY MEMBERS PRESENT-STEVE FOSNESS, RANDY GRUPE, AND DAN SCHMIDTKE - CAME UP WITH SOME 2,500 DOLLARS FROM THE PROMOTIONAL ALLOTMENT AND 1 THOUSAND DOLLARS SET ASIDE FOR REGISTRATION FEES THAT COULD BE SLASHED FROM NEXT YEARS BUDGET - WHICH WOULD BRING IT BACK CLOSE TO THIS YEARS 68,164 DOLLAR FIGURE. DUE TO THE LACK OF A QUORUM THEY WERE UNABLE TO APPROVE THE CHANGES BUT SAID THEY WOULD MAKE THEIR RECOMMENDATION TO THE REST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS HOPEFULLY AT THE NEXT MEETING. THE M C E D A BUDGET HAS TO GO THROUGH THE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO BE APPROVED BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER.

BRYAN STADING BROUGHT UP SOME EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO - SPECIFICALLY THE FARM TOUR AND THE "FROM THE GROUND UP EVENT" THAT INCLUDED THE UNVEILING OF THE "BACON CAPITAL USA" BRANDING GIVEN TO MARTIN COUNTY BY PROJECT 1590, THE MARTIN COUNTY PORK PRODUCERS AND OTHER ENTITIES. SALE OF "BACON CAPITAL USA " T-SHIRTS IS UNDERWAY AT THE HOLIDAY INN AND WILL ALSO BE AT THE MARTIN COUNTY FAIR NEXT WEEK. A SIDELINE TO THE T-SHIRTS - M C E D A BOARD MEMBER STEVE FOSNESS WANTED TO A LOOK AT THE SHIRT THAT COORDINATOR SCOTT HIGGINS HAD AS A SAMPLE. UPON CLOSE INSPECTION OF THE TAG ON THE SHIRT HE FOUND THAT IT WAS "MADE IN NICARAGUA". FOSNESS SUGGESTED THAT THE E D A BOARD MAKE A STRONG RECOMMENDATION TO THE "BACON CAPITAL USA" COMMITTEE TO MAKE SURE THE NEXT BATCH OF SHIRTS IS MADE IN AMERICA. BOARD MEMBERS RANDY GRUPE AND DAN SCHMIDTKE AGREED WITH THAT SUGGESTION.
