THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD TUESDAY RECEIVED AN UPDATE FROM TRADEWIND ENERGY - THE COMPANY LOOKING TO SET UP A 300 MEGAWATT WIND FARM IN SOUTHWEST MARTIN COUNTY TENTATIVELY SET TO BE OPERATION BY 2020. THE DEVELOPMENT WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE IN LAKE BELT, LAKE FREMONT AND JAY TOWNSHIPS, IS IN THE PROCESS OF MEETING WITH LANDOWNERS AFFECTED AND THOSE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROJECT WILL INVOLVE SOME 300 HUNDRED CONSTRUCTION WORKERS INITIALLY AND WHEN COMPLETE COULD EMPLOY FROM 15-20 WORKERS.

TRADEWIND REPRESENTATIVES SAID THE PROJECT WHEN OPERATIONAL COULD BRING IN A MILLION AND HALF ADDITIONAL TAX DOLLARS TO THE COUNTY ANNUALLY. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO INCLUDE A PORTION OF JACKSON COUNTY.

COMMISSIONERS HEARD FROM REPRESENTATIVES FROM WOLD ARCHITECTS ABOUT UPDATING THE JUSTICE CENTER STUDY THAT WAS FIRST COMPLETED IN 2008. THE COUNTY WANTS INFORMATION ON MORE EFFICIENT USE IN THE LAW ENFORCEMENT BUILDING AND HAVE FORMED A "JUSTICE CENTER STUDY" CORE COMMITTEE - THAT WOULD INCLUDE COMMISSIONERS STEVE FLOHRS AND KATHY SMITH -WHO MET WITH THE ARCHITECTS AFTER THE COUNTY BOARD MEETING TUESDAY.

THE BOARD HEARD FROM COUNTY HIGHWAY ENGINEER KEVIN PEYMAN WHO REVIEWED WITH THE BOARD ISSUANCE OF BONDS FOR VARIOUS ROAD PROJECTS . THAT METHOD OF PAYING FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE PROJECTS IN THE COUNTY SEEMED TO BE MORE VIABLE OPTIONS TO THE COMMISSIONERS WHO ALSO HAVE BEEN WEIGHING THE OPTIONS OF INCREASING THE EXISTING WHEELAGE TAX OR GOING WITH A LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX. PEYMAN PRESENTED TO THE BOARD OPTIONS OF A 3 MILLION DOLLAR BOND ISSUE THAT WOULD RESULT IN DEBT PAYMENTS OF 260,000 ANNUALLY AND A 2 MILLION DOLLAR ISSUE THAT WOULD MEAN DEBT PAYMENTS OF 175,000 ANNUALLY. THE BOARD TOOK NO ACTION.

MARTIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVED RENAMING AND ESTABLISHING THE ANNUAL AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE COMMISSIONERS AWARD AS THE STEVEN M. DONNELLY COMMISSIONER AWARD FOR EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE CITIZENSHIP. THE BOARD ACCEPTED A DONATION FROM MARSHA DONNELLY FOR IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTINUANCE OF THE AWARD. STEVE DONNELLY SERVED 23 YEARS ON THE BOARD BEFORE PASSING AWAY LAST YEAR.
