THE FAIRMONT AREA SCHOOL BOARD TUESDAY APPROVED THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT HANDBOOK. TRACI LARDY ,DEAN OF STUDENTS HIGHLIGHTED SOME CHANGES BEGINNING THIS FALL INCLUDING THE STUDENT APPEALS PROCESS. LARDY SAID THAT ONE THING THAT HAS BEEN ADDED IS THAT STUDENTS MAY CHOOSE TO APPEAL A DECISION MADE BY ADMINSTRATION. TO APPEAL A STUDENT MUST MEET WITH THE PRINCIPAL OR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CITING THEIR REASONS FOR THE APPEAL AND MEETING WILL BE SET UP WITH A REVIEW PANEL.

TRACI LARDY ALSO SAID THAT THE DISTRICT WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE PLANNERS FOR STUDENTS. SHE SAID THAT SEVENTH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO HAVE A PLANNER BUT PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO PICK OUT WHAT WORKS BEST FOR THEM. FOR THE 9TH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS PLANNERS WILL BE OPTIONAL. LARDY SAYS A LOT OF STUDENTS USE SMARTPHONES FOR PLANNING PURPOSES.

THE BOARD APPROVED THE HIRING OF PEYTON CROSBY AS A FIFTH GRADE TEACHER, CIERRA BRANDT AS A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AND KEVIN KRISTENSON AS A FIFTH GRADE TEACHER FOR THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR.

THE BOARD RECOGNIZED 25 YEAR EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT. THEY INCUDE JANE GUSTAFSON,TERRY LAVEN,HEIDI LUHMANN,MICHELLE ROSEN AND ELIZABETH SHIMON.
