“These scholarships come from two of our power suppliers, Basin Electric Power Cooperative based in Bismarck, North Dakota; and L&O Power Cooperative in Rock Rapids, Iowa,” stated Scott Reimer, Federated’s general manager. “We are members of both cooperatives since 2008. Basin awards 136 of these scholarships to local electric cooperatives. Federated is excited to award the $1,000 scholarships to Tanner and Sierra.”
The scholarship is available to Federated members with high school seniors and college students who will be enrolled full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school working on an undergraduate or master’s degree. Federated received 15 applications. Each applicant completed a two-page application, wrote an essay, submitted grades, a reference checklist and college test scores.
These scholarship applications were judged by retired school personnel John Stenzel, Heron Lake; and Randy Grupe, Trimont.
Meanwhile, Federated’s Operation Round Up scholarship applications were mailed with the March 1 and March 7 electric bills. The Trust Board is awarding nine $700 scholarship with one for each of the six districts and three scholarships awarded for District At-Large, which includes all Federated members for a second-chance drawing. Applicants must be high school graduating seniors who are the sons or daughters of Federated members. Applications are due by April 21 and winners will be announced in the June Connections newsletter.
Federated is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative serving more than 6,700 members in Jackson and Martin Counties. ###
