THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD HEARD FROM COUNTY HIGHWAY ENGINEER KEVIN PEYMAN. IN HIS REPORT HE MENTIONED THAT THE HIGHWAY 15 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT SET FOR THIS YEAR MAY BE DELAYED BECAUSE OF WHAT ELSE, A STALEMATE IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE OVER HOW TO DISTRIBUTE FEDERAL FUNDS FOR 18 ROAD PROJECTS ACROSS THE STATE.

ONE OF THOSE BEING THE TOTAL RESTRUCTURE OF HIGHWAY 15 ALL THE WAY THROUGH FAIRMONT. HE SAYS EVEN IF THE STALEMATE IS BROKEN SOON IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS TO GET BIDS AND MATERIALS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT THIS YEAR. PEYMAN SAYS THE WORK ON 1-90 OFF AND ON RAMPS TO FAIRMONT SCHEDULED THIS YEAR IS STILL ON BECAUSE IT IS A STATE FUNDED PROJECT.

THE BOARD APPROVED AN EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM TO SUPPLY PRE ARRIVAL INSTRUCTION SERVICES TO QUALIFIED CALLERS FROM AMBULANCE SERVICES IN MARTIN COUNTY.

THE BOARD APPROVED A YEAR END REVIEW OF THE 2016 NATURAL RESOURCES BLOCK GRANT WHICH INCLUDED 3,085 DOLLARS FOR SHORELAND MANAGEMENT, 8,778 DOLLARS FOR THE WETLAND CONSERVATION ACT,$13,697 FOR LOCAL WATER MANAGEMENT AND $18,600 FOR SEPTIC TREATMENT SYSTEMS IN THE COUNTY. WENDY CHIRPICH FROM THE MARTIN COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING OFFICE SAYS THAT 39 SEPTIC SYSTEMS WERE INSTALLED IN THE COUNTY IN 2016.

COMMISSIONERS APPROVED THE HIRE OF DOUG BORCHARDT AS BUILDING MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR FOR MARTIN COUNTY. THEY APPROVED THE APPOINTMENT OF DIANE SANDERS TO THE MARTIN COUNTY RECORDER POSITION TO FILL THE REMAINING TERM OF KAY WRUCKE WHOSE RETIREMENT TAKES EFFECT MARCH 3RD OF THIS YEAR. DIANE SANDERS WILL SERVE AS THE RECORDER THROUGH DEC. 31, 2018. PATRICIA MATHEWS WAS ALSO APPROVED AS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II IN THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT.
