THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL HAD A WORK SESSION PRIOR TO MONDAY'S REGULAR MEETING FOR CITY STAFF TO PROVIDE A LIST OF TOPICS, PROJECTS AND ISSUES THE COUNCIL WILL BE ASKED TO SET POLICY ON THIS YEAR.

THE FIRST TWO TOPICS WERE LAW ENFORCEMENT RELATED AND NEW FAIRMONT POLICE CHIEF MICHAEL HUNTER TALKED ABOUT REESTABLISHING THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER POSITION IN THE FAIRMONT AREA SCHOOLS . THE CITY HAS BUDGETED $50,000 DOLLARS PER YEAR TOWARD THAT GOAL. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET CYCLE IS DIFFERENT AND CITY ADMINISTRATOR SAYS HE AND SUPT. JOE BROWN WILL BE GETTING TOGETHER WITH CHIEF HUNTER TO TRY TO WORK OUT AN ARRANGEMENT THAT HOPEFULLY COULD TAKE EFFECT ON JULY 1 THIS YEAR.

CHIEF HUNTER ALSO FILLED THE COUNCIL IN ON BODY CAMERA POLICY IN ANTICIPATION OF PILOT PROGRAMS TAKING PLACE IN HOPES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT PURCHASING 8 CAMERAS AND 4 CHARGERS IN THE NEAR FUTURE AT A COST OF ABOUT 20,000 DOLLARS. CHIEF HUNTER SAYS DATA PRIVACY,PUBLIC DATA, PRIVATE NON- PUBLIC ISSUES WILL BE WORKED OUT AND THAT PUBLIC COMMENT WILL BE SOUGHT INCLUDING AT A CITY COUNCIL MEETING BEFORE THE BODY CAMERA PROGRAM IS INITIATED.

THOSE ISSUES WERE THOUGHT TO BE ABLE TO BE HANDLED AT REGULAR COUNCIL MEETINGS BIT OTHER TOPICS INCLUDING A CITY-TOWNSHIP FIRE SERVICE AGREEMENT, KNOLLWOOD TRAIL CONNECTION, USE OF LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX, COMMUNITY CENTER DYNAMICS, DREDGING DUTCH CREEK, AND AN INFRASTRUCTURE FUND INCLUDING FRANCHISE FEES AND A STORM WATER ORDINANCE UPDATE WOULD REQUIRE MORE WORK SESSIONS IN THE FUTURE.
