THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD TUESDAY ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF MARTIN COUNTY RECORDER KAY WRUCKE EFFECTIVE MARCH 3RD OF THIS YEAR. KAY HAS BEEN COUNTY RECORDER FOR 30 PLUS YEARS AND WAS THANKED BY THE BOARD FOR THE GREAT JOB DONE DURING HER TIME ON THE JOB.

COMMISSIONERS APPROVED A MOTION TO ESTABLISH A SECURITY COMMITTEE FOR THE COURTHOUSE AFTER DISCUSSING THE SITUATION DURING A WORK SESSION THAT PRECEDED THE REGULAR MEETING TUESDAY. AT THAT TIME MARTIN COUNTY ATTORNEY TERRY VIESSELMAN AND SHERIFF JEFF MARKQUART TALKED WITH THE BOARD ABOUT CONSIDERING SECURITY MEASURES FOR THE WHOLE COURTHOUSE IN ADDITION TO THE COURTROOM.

SHERIFF MARKQUART SUGGESTED THE COMMITTEE BE FORMED THAT WAS APPROVED DURING THE REGULAR MEETING TO COME UP WITH IDEAS TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE BOARD. ATTORNEY VIESSELMAN SAID A BIG FACTOR IS COST AND THAT THERE IS A GRANT THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH FINANCING.

DISCUSSION ALSO INCLUDED SECURITY FOR THE COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WHICH IS LOCATED SEPARATE FROM THE COURTHOUSE. VIESSELMAN SAID "WE DO NEED SOME SECURITY THERE" STATING THAT "THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE ATTORNEYS ARE GONE AND SOME THREATENING PEOPLE COME IN, WHICH CAN BE STRESSFUL FOR THE EMPLOYEES".

THE BOARD DID APPROVE PROCEEDING WITH CONSTRUCTION OF A SECURE ENTRYWAY FOR THE COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE INCLUDING GLASS AND A LOCKING DOOR WITH COST EXPENDED FROM THE COUNTY ATTORNEYS FORFEITURE FUND. OTHER POTENTIAL SECURITY MEASURES FOR THE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE ALONG WITH LOOKING INTO A LONG TERM LEASE FOR THE PRESENT LOCATION WERE ALSO DISCUSSED.
