THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY APPROVED AN EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT WITH NEW POLICE CHIEF MICHAEL HUNTER. CITY ADMINISTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL INTRODUCED THE NEW CHIEF TO THE COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT AN HE HAD A FEW WORDS FOR THE COUNCIL SAYING HE WAS PROUD TO BE NAMED CHIEF AND HOPED TO BUILD COMMUNITY TRUST AND SUPPORT.

THE AGREEMENT CALLS FOR FOR A 91,409 DOLLAR SALARY BEGINNING ON DEC. 8TH THIS YEAR - HIS FIRST OFFICIAL DAY AS CHIEF. ON JULY FIRST 2017 THAT PAY WILL BE AT 98,134 DOLLARS. MICHAEL HUNTER HAS SPENT THE LAST 18 YEARS ON THE FAIRMONT POLICE FORCE. HE REPLACES GREG BROLSMA, WHO WAS ON THE FAIRMONT POLICE FORCE FOR 30 YEARS. THE LAST 15 AS CHIEF BEFORE RETIRING ON THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER.

FAIRMONT CITY ADMINISTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL HAD KUDOS FOR FAIRMONT CITY FINANCE DIRECTOR PAUL HOYE AS THE CITY QUALIFIED FOR A CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING FROM THE GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION.

THE CERTIFICATE IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF RECOGNITION IN GOVERNMENTAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ITS ATTAINMENT REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT BY A GOVERNMENT AND ITS MANAGEMENT.
