THE FIRST OF THREE CANDIDATE FORUMS TOOK PLACE AT FAIRMONT CITY HALL THURSDAY NIGHT.

CANDIDATES FOR FAIRMONT MAYOR MADE THEIR PRESENTATIONS AND EXPRESSED THEIR VIEWS.

TOPICS INCLUDED WATER QUALTITY,BUILDING CODES, ENTICING INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESS TO LOCATE HERE , RETAINING BUSINESSES, A STRONG WORKFORCE AND IMPLEMEANTATION AND USAGE OF A 1/2 PER CENT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX IF APPROVED BY VOTERS IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.

RICHIE JOHNSON MADE HIS CASE FOR THE POSITION AS HEAD OF THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL WITH HIS BUSINESS SENSE

DEBBIE FOSTER PASSED ALONG A COUPLE OF HER TRAITS THAT ARE INVALUABLE IN THE MAYORS POSITION BEING TRUSTWORTHY AND OPEN TOO CITZENS CONCERNS.

TWO CANDIDATES VYING FOR COUNCILOR AT LARGE SPOKE UP. FIRST PRESENT 2ND WARD COUNCILOR CHAD ASKELAND TALKED ABOUT HIS DESIRE TO CONTNUE SERVING THE CITY IN THE AT LARGE POSITION.

THE OTHER AT LARGE CANDIDATE TOM HAWKINS SAYS HE WILL BE OPEN TO IDEAS AND AVAIALABLE TO CONTITUENTS.

FAIRMONT 2ND WARD COUNCIL CANDIDATES MADE THEIR POSITIONS KNOWN. ED WILLETT TALKED ABOU BRING A NEW SET OF EYES TO CITY COUNCIL HAVING SERVED IN CITY GOVERNMENT IN ANOTHER TOWN.

RUTH CYPHERS SPOKE OF INCREASED COMMUNICATION AND ACCESS TO COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR CONSTITUENTS.

THE 4TH WARD HAD TWO FAMILIAR FOES - PRESENT COUNCILOR TERRY ANDERSON AND WAYNE HASEK WHO HAS RUN AGAINST HIM BEFORE.

MR. HASEK SAYS HE WILL BRING A MORE RECEPTIVE PERSONA TO THE COUNCIL.

TERRY ANDERSON TALKED ABOUT TWO PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY- REFOMING BUILDING CODES AND WATER QUALITY.

TWO MORE FORUMS TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK WITH FAIRMONT AREA SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES SET FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY 0CT. 20 AT 6 PM AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND STATE SENATE NEXT THURSDAY AT 7 PM.
