THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY HEARD A LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM MARTY SEIFERT, FORMER STATE LEGISLATOR, NOW WITH THE COALITION OF GREATER MINNESOTA CITIES.

HE TOLD THE COUNCIL ABOUT THEIR LOSS OF SOME 104,000 DOLLARS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AID. HE SAID FAIRMONT WAS ONE OF TWO CITIES IN THE STATE WITH THE UNIQUE SITUATION OF LOSING STATE AID NO MATTER WHOSE PLAN MOVED FORWARD IN THE STATE BECAUSE OF AN INCREASE IN PRIVATE SECTOR BUSINESS INVESTMENT.

MARTY SEIFERT, ALSO A FORMER CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR, SAID WITH THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL'S DIRECTION THE COALITION COULD MOVE FORWARD WITH A PLAN TO TWEAK THE L G A FORMULA.

SEIFERT CONCLUDED HIS PRESENTATION BY SAYING THERE IS LITTLE TO SHOW FROM THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION-NO TAX BILL, NO BONDING BILL, NO TRANSPORTATION PACKAGE, AND NO ADDITIONAL HELP FOR OUTSTATE MINNESOTA.
