THE FAIRMONT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ON WEDNESDAY APPROVED A REVOLVING LOAN FUND APPLICATION FOR A STARTUP SPECIALTY BUTCHER SHOP IN FAIRMONT. JEFF SCHMIDT,SOLE PROPRIETOR OF FAIRMONT BUTCHER BLOCK SUBMITTED THE APPLICATION FOR 75,000 DOLLARS FOR THE PROJECT THAT INCLUDES PURCHASING AND RENOVATING THE OLD OLSON LOCKER BUILDING ON WINNEBAGO AVENUE AND BRINGING IT UP TO CODE AND IN OPERATIONAL ORDER TO START THE NEW BUSINESS.

A LOCAL BANK HAS COMITTED TO THE PROJECT WITH A LOAN OF 150,000 DOLLARS ON A 12 YEAR AMOLRTIZATION WITH A FIVE YEAR FIXED RATE OF 5.5 PER CENT CONTINGENT UPON OBTAINING OTHER FUNDING NECESSARY. THE PROJECT HAS SECURED A 75,000 DOLLAR GRANT THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO ASIST WITH PROJECT COSTS AND AN ADDITIONAL LOAN FROM THE SOUTHERN MINNESOTA INITIATIVE FOUJNDATION. TOTAL PRJECT COST ESTMATE IS 350,000 DOLLARS.

JEFF SCHMIDT,THE OWNER AND MANAGER OF THE PROPOSED BUTCHER BLOCK HAS A DEGREE IN MEAT CUTTING FROM PIPESTONE VOCATIONAL ADN WORKED IN THE MEAT DEPARTMENT AT MULTIPLE HY-VEE LOCATIONS FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS BEFORE SPENDING TEH MOST RECENT 8 YEARS AT THE BUTCHER SHOP IN LAKEFIELD. THE PROJECT INCLUDES THE HIRING OF 3 FULL TIME AND 3 PART TIME EMPLOYEES,WHILE RENOVATING A CURRENTLY UNDER UTILIZED BUILDING AND PROVIDING A SERVICE NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED IN THE CITY OF FAIRMONT ACCORDING TO FAIRMONT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR LINSEY PREUSS.

THE F E D A BOARD APPROVED A 75,000 DOLLAR LOAN AT 4 PER CENT INTEREST WITH A 20 YEAR AMORTIZATION AND A 6 YEAR BALLOON.
