THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY APPROVED A PLAN TO TO HAVE CITY STAFF GATHER INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE SCOPE AND SIZE OF A PROJECT TO REMOVE SEDIMENT FROM THE MOUTH OF DUTCH CREEK TO ALOW FREE WATER FLOW INTO HALL LAKE. MEMBERS OF THE FAIRMONT LAKES FOUNDATION APPROACHED THE CITY ABOUT THEIR CONCERN THAT TEH CREEK IS BACKIG UP CAUSING WATER TO BECOME STAGNANT AND THEN ECOME CONTAMINATED WITH E COLI AND NUTRIENTS.

COUNCILOR CHAD ASKELAND ASKED IF THERE IS ANYTHING IN THE WORKS TO TO SOLVE THE SEDIMENT PROBLEM BACK UPSTREAM OTHERWISE THAT THE MOUTH WILL JUST CONTINUE TO REFILL WITH SEDIMENT AGAIN. FAIRMONT LAKES FOUNDATION PRESIDENT MIKE KATZEMEYER TALKED ABOUT THE PLANS THAT ARE PROPOSED BY SOIL AND WATER TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT THAT SOIL AND WATER WILL PLANT NATIVE AQUATIC SPECIES IN AREA AHEAD OF AND APPROACHING THE OUTLET CHANNEL IF THAT PLAN OF ACTION IS APPROVED AND FUNDS APPROVED.

CITY ADMINSTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL SAID THE CITY IS WORKING ON AN APPLICATION TO GARNER SOME GRANT FUNDS FROM THE LESSARD-S A M S LEGACY AMENDMENT TO PAY FOR MORE WORK ON DUTCH CREEK.

THE CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZED CITY EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE REACHED MILESTONES WORKING FOR THE CITY. THOSE RECOGNIZED FOR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE ARE GREG BROLSMA,RICKY PIERCE AND BRUCE EVERSMAN; 15 YEARS WADE WILLIAMS,SHANNON BASS AND BRYAN BOLTJES AND 10 YEARS- LIKE SCHULTZ.

MAYOR PRO-TEM WES CLERC SOUGHT APPROVAL FOR DARON JOHNSON TO BE APPOINTED TO THE POLICE COMMISSION AND HE WAS APPROVED BY THE COUNCIL.

THE COUNCIL GRANTED TWO FAIRMONT CHURCHES REQUESTS TO BLOCK OFF PORTIONS OF CITY STREETS FOR EVENTS PLANNED FOR SUNDAY SEPT. 11. GRACE LUTHERAN'S REQUEST WAS FOR THEIR GOD'S GRACE IS AMAZING EVENT FROM 10:30 AM TO 2 PM. ST.PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH REQUEST IS FOR A PICNIC FROM 11:30 AM TO 3 PM THAT DAY.
