THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY GAVE FINAL APPROVAL TO AMENDING THE CITY CITY CODE TO ALLOW CHICKENS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS. CITY ATTORNEY ELIZABETH BLOOMQUIST SPELLED OUT THE MAIN CHANGE IN THE ORDINANCE. WHICH INCLUDES LANGUAGE SAYING THAT NO MORE THAN FIVE CHICKENS CAN BE KEPT AT ONE LOCATION AND ABSOLUTLEY NO ROOSTERS

THE APPROVAL CAME ON A 3-1 VOTE WITH COUNCILOR CHAD ASKELAND THE LONE DISSENTING VOTE SAYING HE HAD TALKED TO 20 OR 25 PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T WANT CHICKENS KEPT IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD AND NONE THAT DID

COUNCILOR WES CLERC RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT ASKELAND MISSED THE NOVEMBER MEETING WHEN CHICKEN SUPPORTERS FILLED THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS. COINCILOR TERRY ANDERSON ALSO HAD SOME RESERVATIONS BUT DID VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE ORDINANCE.
