Plan to attend Fairmont’s 2nd Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics “Putting STEAM into STEM Expo” on Monday, March 5, 4:30-6:30 pm, at the Fairmont Elementary School, 714 Victoria Street, Fairmont. Families are encouraged to participate in this unique event to raise awareness of the varied and exciting STEAM options in the real world available to youth and young adults. The event is free and open to the public.
Featured exhibitors at this event include ExploraDome from the University of Minnesota Bell Museum of Natural History, Avery Weigh-Tronix, Ag in the Classroom, Prairie Ecology Bus Center, Valero Renewables, 3M-Fairmont, Kahler Automation Corporation, Hy-Vee Foods, Mayo Clinic Heath System-Fairmont, Fairmont High School Robotics, FES Elementary Staff and 6th Grade students.
Discover the world of STEAM at the Expo with these featured activities and much more. Visit the ExploraDome for an interactive exploration of the solar system. See the latest in bionic technology and robotics demonstrations. See the new technology in “Using Weight or Vision System to Count M & M’s” with a counting scale and a pill counter by Avery Weigh-Tronix staff. Wanda Patsche will offer observation skills with comparisons in the growth of Indian Corn & Popcorn Seeds while students create a “Living Necklace” at the Ag in a Classroom exhibit. Learn about birds, beaks and adaptation tools in birds from the Prairie Ecology Bus Center naturalists. Compare automation and manual operation with pump stand to fill a bucket with water with the Kahler Automation Corporation staff. Learn the basics of a grocery store and checkout with Hy-Vee Foods. Participate in the 6th Grade Simple Machines and Pool Noodle Marker activities. Stop by the 3M exhibit and explore binary codes, chemical reactions, air pressure changes, Hook & Loop, Air Zooka, Newton’s Cradle as well as see a Phenolphthalein Demo to reveal a hidden message. Discover the ways ethanol is used in our world through a science experiment with corn at Valero Renewables. Explore the role of science in muscle stimulation, germ detection, vein location and laparoscopic surgery with Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont staff. Have fun with the Fairmont High School Robotics students making moon sand and doing marble magic.
