On Thursday, December 21, 2017, Governor Mark Dayton announced the establishment of a new Governor’s Task Force on Housing. Representative Bob Gunther, R-Fairmont, was selected by Speaker Daudt on Thursday to serve on the task force representing the House Republican Majority. Gunther has championed a number of bills to improve access to affordable workforce housing in Greater Minnesota during his tenure as a state representative.
The task force will focus on studying our state’s housing system and will develop recommendations to increase access to safe and affordable rental housing, improve housing stability and opportunities, and create additional pathways to homeownership.
“Affordable and accessible housing is vital to our state, to families, and to employers and employees, and is an issue I have championed during my time in the legislature,” said Rep. Gunther. “Homeownership is a stepping stone for many families and the bedrock of strong communities. Workforce housing is also critical to ensure employers can attract and hire great employees, bringing more skilled workers and their families to Greater Minnesota, and helping give a boost to local economies.
“I am pleased to have been appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Housing and will work to find common sense solutions that will help increase homeownership opportunities throughout Minnesota,” Gunther concluded.
