Fairmont Opera House announces plan for 10 million dollar improvement and expansion.

Fairmont Opera House Executive Director Blake Potthoff made the big kick-off announcement Saturday evening during the “Rave On :Buddy Holly Experience” performance that kicked off the 2017-18 Subscription Series ,explaining the "Launch The Legacy Capital Campaign."

Potthoff said the Fairmont Opera House is "poised to 'lift-off' into the future as the region's premiere arts and cultural center for generations to come. He laid out plans for improvements to the existing structure and expansion to the south.

Part of the funds raised through the Capital Campaign will go to building a new addition next door to the existing facilities with the purchase of the building which most recently was home to the Ivy Blue womens boutique , offering ADA accessibility to all floors of the Opera House among other benefits.

Blake Potthoff says the Opera House is up to 20 per cent of its goal without an public push for funds as of yet. He cites legacy funding for the arts from the state legislature and being the benefactor of some foundations and estate bequests.

The existing building will undergo upgrades in lighting, restrooms, roofing and ramping. The addition will house, offices, restrooms, meeting rooms and a gallery. The goal is to have fundraising completed by Dec. 31,2020.
