THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT APPROVED A PRELIMINARY 12.1 PERCENT LEVY INCREASE FOR NEXT YEAR. CITY ADMINISTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL EXPLAINED TO THE COUNCIL AND THE PUBLIC THAT THE THE CITY DID SEE SOME INCREASE IN REVENUES TO THE CITY - LIKE A 31,000 DOLLAR PLUS INCREASE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AID AND APPROVAL FOR THE ONE HALF PERCENT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX WHICH COULD MEAN UP TO 600,000 DOLLARS PER YEAR IN ADDED INCOME...BUT THAT THE CITY WILL BE INCURRING AN INCREASE IN EXPENDITURES IN 2018.

THE INCREASE IN THE LEVY WILL AMOUNT TO 488,837 DOLLARS.

PAUL HOYE CITY FINANCIAL OFFICER SAY THAT THAT 12.1 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE LEVY AMOUNT IS NOT EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE PROPERTY TAX STATEMENTS THAT MUCH.

THE PRELIMINARY BUDGET AND LEVY APPROVED LAST NIGHT CAN BE DECREASED BUT NOT INCREASED BEFORE FINAL ADOPTION AT THE DEC. 11 MEETING.

THE COUNCIL SET A PUBLIC HEARING FOR MONDAY OCT. 9TH FOR COMMENT ON ASSESSMENTS ON THE 2017 STREET IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM AND APPROVED A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR A NURSERY SCHOOL AT THE FAIRMONT CHRISTIAN CHURCH AT 625 JOHNSON STREET.
