THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL AT MONDAY'S MEETING CONTINUED WITH A SHORT DISCUSSION ON INPUT RECEIVED ON WHETHER OR NOT THE CITY SHOULD ALLOW SALES ON SUNDAY AT THE MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORE WHEN A NEW STATE LAW ALLOWING THAT TAKES EFFECT IN JULY.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL SAID THERE WAS NO HURRY SINCE IT DID NOT TAKE EFFECT UNTIL JULY AND THE CITY SHOULD SEEK MORE INPUT. COUNCILORS ALL WEIGHED IN ON WHAT FEEDBACK IF ANY THEY HAD FROM CONSTITUENTS. COUNCILOR TOM HAWKINS SUGGESTED AN ADVISORY BOARD BE SET UP TO TAKE INPUT AND ADD GUIDANCE ON DECISIONS FOR THE LIQUOR STORE. MIKE HUMPAL THEN STATED THAT ACCORDING TO THE AUDIT THE COUNCIL JUST APPROVED THE LIQUOR STORE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL THE WAY IT IS PRESENTLY ADMINISTERED AND ADDED "THE CITY IS IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE BUSINESS IN EVERYTHING WE DO".

THE COUNCIL APPROVED A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY AND COUNCILOR RUTH CYPHERS LIMITING CITY PAYMENT TO HER BUSINESS, ADMFG INC. TO 7,500 DOLLARS ANNUALLY TO KEEP HER FINANCIAL DEALINGS ABOVE BOARD WHEN THE CITY PAYS HER BUSINESS TO PRINT BROCHURES, FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OR ANY OTHER CITY BOARD. COUNCILOR CYPHERS MUST ALSO ABSTAIN FROM ANY VOTES REGARDING THAT AS SHE DID WITH THIS CONFLICT OF INTEREST VOTE AT MONDAY'S MEETING.

THE YEAR END REPORT ON THE FAIRMONT AQUATIC PART WAS PRESENTED FOR 2016 WHICH SHOWED 25,855 PATRONS. MORE THAN 500 STUDENTS TOOK SWIMMING LESSONS. THE REPORT STATES THAT 83 SEASONAL STAFF MEMBERS WERE EMPLOYED AND THAT GENERALLY THE AQUATIC PARK HAS MINIMAL TURNOVER FROM HEAR TO YEAR, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF STAFF MEMBERS SEEKING INTERNSHIPS / FULL TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT. THIS PAST SEASON THE PARK HOSTED GROUPS FROM MANKATO, FULDA, BLUE EARTH, NEW ULM, LAKE CRYSTAL, NICOLLET, WINDOM, JACKSON AND ST.PETER IN MINNESOTA AND FOREST CITY, SPIRIT LAKE AND ESTHERVILLE, IOWA.

THE PLAN IS TO KEEP DAILY ADMISSION AT 5 DOLLARS PER PERSON 2 YEARS AND OLDER THIS YEAR AT THE FAIRMONT AQUATIC PARK.
