THE 2017 STREET IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD. THREE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS HAD THE MOST INTEREST FOR THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. THE RECONSTRUCTION OF MARGARET STREET DREW OBJECTIONS FROM SOME RESIDENTS WHO THOUGHT THE PRESETN DIRT ROAD WAS GOOD ENOUGH AS IT IS ABUTTED BASICALLY BY AG LAND AND CITY PROPERTY FOR THE MOST PART. TROY NEMMERS SAID THE CITY WOULD HIRE AN APPRAISER WHO WILL VALUE PROPERTY BEFORE AND AFTER THE PROJECT TO GET FAIR ASSESSMENTS ON THE PROJECT THIS FALL.

THE RECONSTUCTION OF 10TH AND 11TH STREET FROM GEORGE LAKE TO NORTH NORTH AVENUE DREW QUESTIONS FROM RESIDENTS ON THE NEED FOR SIDEWALKS. ONE CALLED IT A SIDEWALK TO NOWHERE WHICH DEAD ENDS AT GEORGE LAKE. MAYOR DEB FOSTER HAD THIS COMMENT ON THE SIDEWALK CONTROVERSY.

CITY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TROY NEMMERS SAID HE IS WILLING TO WORK WITH RESIDENTS TO COME TO A WORKABLE AND ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION TO THE SIDEWALK QUESTION.

A RESIDENT OF CHARLES STREET COMMENTED ON A WATER PROBLEM WITH AN OLD COUNTY TILE IN THE AREA SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE THE RESURFACING PROJECT SCHEDULED THERE AND ANOTHER QUESTIONED THE OVERLY ON STADE LANE TO MAKE SURE IT WOUDL BE ENOUGH TO TAKE THE WEAR AND TEAR OF SOCCER FIELD TRAFFIC THAT ENDS UP PARKING AND DRIVING THERE.

THE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS WERE APPROVED BY THE COUNCIL ON A 4 -1 VOTE. COUNCILOR WAYNE HASEK CAST THE DISSENTING VOTE BASICALLY BECAUSE OF HIS OPPOSITION TO THE MARGARET STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN HIS 4TH WARD.
