THE FAIRMONT AREA SCHOOL BOARD TUESDAY APPROVED ENTERING INTO A COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF FAIRMONT AND COMMITTING $50,000 DOLLARS TO EMPLOY A FULL TIME SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER FOR THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR.

FAIRMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT LT. DEL ELLIS IS MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD AND COMMENTED ON THE AGREEMENT.

SUPT JOE BROWN IN HIS TALKS WITH FAIRMONT CITY ADMINISTRATOR MIKE HUMPAL THAT THE DISTRICT IS IN NEED OF AN S R O THAT IS TRAINED TO DEAL WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND OR DRUG/ALCOHOL ISSUES AND TO BE A SECURE PRESENCE AT THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS.

THE STAFF WELFARE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD AUTHORIZE AND ADDITIONAL $50,000 DOLLARS NEXT YEAR TO INCREASE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL SERVICES FOR FAIRMONT ELEMENTARY AND FAIRMONT HIGH SCHOOL TO FULL TIME. SUPT. BROWN PROPOSED THAT THE DISTRICT TERMINATE PURCHASING OCCUPATIONAL AND SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST SERVICES FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS EDUCATIONAL COOP AND HIRE STEPHANIE JOHNSON, MIKE DEBOER AND KELLI OLSON TO HANDLE THOSE DUTIES STRICTLY FOR THE FAIRMONT AREA SCHOOLS STARTING JULY 1 THIS YEAR. THE BOARD APPROVED THAT PROPOSAL.
