State Senator Julie Rosen (Vernon Center) renewed her oath of office Tuesday as the Minnesota Legislature reconvened for the 2017-2018 legislative session. The Legislature will face a similar set of issues as last year – namely, what to do about health care costs, roads and bridges, and tax relief – but the circumstances have changed, as Republicans captured the majority in the Senate for the first time since 2012.

“This is the start of my 15th year”, said Sen. Rosen. “It’s still humbling and exciting to be sworn in and walk up the steps to the Senate chamber.”

“I’m very aware of the seriousness of this session. Rising health care costs have been causing harm to families all over Minnesota for a long time, and it’s now reached emergency proportions. The ceremonial opening of session was nice, but we are all ready to start working and finally get the families that are struggling to pay their premiums some help.”

Sen. Rosen will take the helm of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and Chair of the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement this session. In addition, she will serve on the Energy and Utilities Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee, and the Human Services Reform Committee.

Sen. Rosen can be contacted at her office in Room 3235 of the Minnesota Senate Building, 95 University Ave, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155, by phone at 651-296-5713, or by email at Sen.Julie.Rosen@senate.mn.
