THE FAIRMONT PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION APPROVED THE 2017 BUDGET AT THEIR LAST MEETING. THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL HAD THEIR FIRST LOOK AT MONDAY'S MEETING.

CITY FINANCE DIRECTOR PAUL HOYE SUMMARIZED THE REPORT AS FAR AS UTILITY RATES ARE CONCERNED. HE SAYS THE THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IN WATER AND SEWER RATES, BUT THE ELECTRIC BILL WILL GO UP IN PART TO AN INCREASE OF 2.1 PERCENT IN THE RATE PAYED TO SMMPA FOR POWER GENERATION.

THE ENERGY COST ADJUSTMENT WILL AMOUNT TO A 3% TO 6% INCREASE TO CUSTOMER'S ELECTRIC BILLS DEPENDING ON RESIDENTIAL OR COMMERCIAL STATUS. THE P U C BUDGET WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE COUNCIL AT THE DECEMBER 12TH MEETING FOR APPROVAL.

THAT DECEMBER 12 MEETING WILL START AT 6 PM AND WILL INCLUDE THE TRUTH IN TAXATION PUBLIC HEARING N THE OVERALL CITY BUDGET AND PROPOSED LEVY FOR 2017.

THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL WAS INVOLVED IN A DISCUSSION MONDAY NIGHT ABOUT RECURRING FLOODING PROBLEMS ON BURTON LANE AND SPECIFICALLY CONCERNING H R A FRIENDSHIP VILLAGE HOUSING COMPLEX. STEVE HAWKINS, A MEMBER OF THE FAIRMONT H R A BOARD AND GAIL DIEDE, HOUSING MANAGER PRESENTED PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF THE FLOODING THAT OCCURS AFTER A RAPID RAINFALL.

STEVE HAWKINS TALKED ABOUT THE REASON FOR THE PRESENTATION BEING TO HAVE THE COUNCIL MAKE THE PROBLEM A PRIORITY IN BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS.

COUNCILORS MOVED THAT A STUDY BE CONDUCTED AND ACTIONS TAKEN TO HELP MITIGATE THAT PROBLEM THAT HAS EXISTED SINCE THE CREATION OF FRIENDSHIP VILLAGE OVER 40 YEARS AGO.
