THE FAIRMONT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MET BEFORE MONDAY'S REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING. AMONG THE TOPICS PRESENTED WAS AN UPDATE ON THE SMALL CITIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IN WHICH FAIRMONT WAS AWARDED 305,250 DOLLARS TO BE USED FOR RESIDENTIAL HOUSING REHABILITATION IN A SPECIFIC TARGET AREA. THE CITY LEVERAGED OTHER RESOURCES, WHICH LED TO A TOTAL PROJECT COST OF 517,500 DOLLARS INCLUDING ADMINISTRATION COSTS TO REHAB 15 OWNER OCCUPIED SINGLE FAMILY HOMES. SIX PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE FULL APPLICATION AND ONE PROJECT IS OUT FOR THE BID WRITE-UP.

THE GOAL IS TO BID OUT 3-4 PROJECTS AT THE SAME TIME TO MAKE THEM MORE MARKETABLE PROJECTS TO A CONTRACTOR. THE CITY HAS TWO CONTRACTORS THEY WILL BE WORKING WITH DUE TO HAVING TO FOLLOW THE CRITERIA THAT A LEAD SUPERVISOR MUST BE ON SITE AND IT CANNOT BE JUST LEAD WORKERS. SOME AUTHORITY MEMBERS QUESTIONED WHETHER F E D A SHOULD PROMOTE PAYING FOR SOMEONE TO GET A LEAD SUPERVISOR CERTIFICATION THAT WOULD HELD INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CONTRACTORS ABLE TO WORK ON SUCH PROJECTS.

THOSE OWNERS OF OCCUPIED SINGLE FAMILY HOMES COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR DEFERRED LOANS IF THE OWNER STAYS IN THE HOME FOR 10 YEARS. THE CITY HAS UNTIL AUGUST 2018 TO FINISH THE 15 REHABILITATIONS OR THE LEFTOVER FUNDING COULD BE LOST ACCORDING TO FAIRMONT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR LINSEY PREUSS.
