THE FINAL CANDIDATE FORUMS WERE HELD AT FAIRMONT'S CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS THURSDAY NIGHT. THIS TIME THE STATE SENATE DISTRICT 23 FORUM WAS HELD BETWEEN INCUMBENT JULIE ROSEN AND CHALLENGER BARB LAKE AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 23A CANDIDATES BOB GUNTHER AND CHALLENGER ZAC HUNTLEY.

A BIG TOPIC AT THE FORUM IS THE APPARENT MELTDOWN AT THE MNSURE THE STATE EXCHANGE FOR THE NATIONAL AFFORDABLE CARE ACT.

MR. HUNTLEY TALKED ABOUT BEING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE..

STATE REP. BOB GUNTHER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT LOCAL INDEPENDENT HEALTH PROVIDERS WHO MAY BE SQUEEZED OUT WHEN INDIVIDUALS MAY HAVE TO SWITCH TO DIFFERENT PLANS.

THE SENATE CANDIDATES ALSO CHIMED IN ON THE 5 PER CENT THE STATE SAYS IS AFFECTED BY ASTRONOMICAL PREMIUM INCREASES.

HERE'S BARB LAKE. WHO ADDED ANYBODY OVER 55 SEEKING COVERAGE MAY BE SWITCHED BY THE STATE TO MEDICAID WHICH HAS ITS OWN COMPLICATIONS

JULIE ROSEN SAYS OUR NEIGHBORS ARE AMONG THE FIVE PER CENT AND SHE RECOUNTED HER STORY OF THE MNSURE ROLLOUT 3 AND 1/2 YEARS AGO AND HOW AMENDMENTS TO MNSURE AT THAT TIME WERE IGNORED.

OTHER TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDED TRANSPORATION,THE ABRUPT END OF THE SESSION THAT LEFT TAX AND BONDING BILLS ON THE TABLE, NURSING HOMES AND AUTHORITY OF STATE AGENCIES SUCH AS D N R AND M P C A PERMITTING.


TWO MARTIN COUNTY COMMISSIONER CANDIDATES WERE ON HAND TO PRESENT PREPARED STATEMENTS TO THE FORUM AUDIENCE. KATHY SMITH INCUMBENT 3RD DISTRCIT COMMISSIONER IS OPPOSED BY CANDIDATE JUM UTERMARCK WHO WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND AND 5TH DISTRICT COMMISSIONER STEVE FLOHRS WHO IS UNOPPOSED WAS IN ATTENDANCE AND ELLIOT BELGARD INCUMBENT FIRST DISTRICT COMMISSIONER AND BOARD CHAIR IS ALSO UNOPPOSED.
