ANOTHER SNAG HAS DEVELOPED IN THE ATTEMPT BY THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD TO RELOCATE THE VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE, WHICH MUST MOVE DUE TO SPACE RESTRICTIONS AT ITS PRESENT LOCATION IN THE HUMAN SERVICES BUILDING. COMMISSIONERS THOUGHT THEY WERE SET WHEN THEY AGREED TO A FIVE YEAR LEASE AT THE KRAHMER OFFICE PLAZA BUILDING ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE MARTIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. THE OWNER AGREED TO MAKE AND PAY FOR SOME IMPROVEMENTS TO MAKE THE BUILDING MORE HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE.

BUT NOW A REVIEW OF THE PLAN SHOWED THAT IT WAS NOT COMPLIANT WITH A D A REGULATIONS. IT WOULD COST AN ESTIMATED 7,500 DOLLARS TO BRING IT INTO COMPLIANCE. THE LANDLORD BALKED AT PAYING THE NEW AMOUNT AND IT WOULD BE UP TO THE COUNTY TO PAY FOR IT.

COMMISSIONERS FELT THAT THEY COULDN'T PAY THAT MUCH FOR IMPROVEMENTS FOR A BUILDING THEY DID NOT OWN. THE BOARD HAS MADE A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS TO FIND A SUITABLE LOCATION FOR THE VETERAN'S SERVICE OFFICE. COMMISSIONER TOM MAHONEY SAID THE COUNTY SHOULD GO OUT FOR BIDS ON THE PROJECT AND IF THEY GOT DOWN TO AROUND 5,000 DOLLARS -TAKE IT- TO GET THE OFFICE MOVED TO THAT LOCATION. THE OTHER COMMISSIONERS AGREED WITH THAT MOTION.
